The capital
receives reports that elements of the Second Russian Army had captured the
first lines of German trenches in their front. Patriots in the capital were
delighted, but the troops had already stopped where they were and begun
deserting instead of continuing the advance.
Meanwhile
elections in the Baranovsky factory sent three Bolsheviks to the Petrograd
Soviet, replacing Social Revolutionaries. And Kronstadt anarchists demanded the
release of prisoners being held in the Peter and Paul Fortress.
